The idea of a web site about the Astle family was first considered in early 2001 with the registration of the astle.ca domain on February 1st. During the next few years, several discussions were had concerning the content and format of the site. Essentially due to a lack of time, these pages consisted of a single item suggesting some form of genealogical clearing house would evolve.
In 2005, a preliminary version of the site went online with some fairly grandiose plans. However, these plans failed to materialize for various reasons. Thus, the preliminary version languished.
In early 2009, over eight years after the original concept was considered, a new concept was decided upon. Instead of attempting to provide a portal type site, we would, instead, narrow the focus to sharing information that we have developed. To that end, we have placed online much of the information we have acquired over the years in the hope that it will allow researchers to link their researches with ours.
We have kept the design of this site as simple as possible in order to make the information as accessible as possible.
