When considering how to present the database, we considered a number of factors. Eventually, we settled on an interlinked web of html pages rather than a more formalized means of presentation. Because the information presented for each record has the potential to vary significantly from record to record, it presents something of a challenge to handle in any automated way. Since we do not have the resources necessary to undertake such a complex task, we settled on something relatively easy to maintain.
Further, we felt that most users would either arrive at our site through a search on something like Google or would be merely exploring and would click through information from page to page. In neither case did we feel a massive index of all our records would be useful. Also, because search engines such as Google do an excellent job indexing the web, we felt that rolling our own search would be wasted effort.
We have provided links to a selection of records in our database. The list below is by no means complete.
